Heterogeneous Mixture Examples  Heterogeneous Mixture  	  A heterogeneous mixture is a mixture that, quite simply, is not uniform throughout. Hetero- means different. You could separate the parts of the mixture from each other-this is one of the hallmarks of a heterogeneous mixture. Another characteristic is that the different substances that make up a heterogeneous mixture keep their own properties.  	 Examples of Heterogeneous Mixture:  	 A bowl of Chex Mix  A piggy bank full of different kinds of coins  Sand in a bottle of water (it will settle/separate if you allow it to sit)  Soil  Vinegar and Oil (again, they will separate if you allow to sit)  A bowl of M&Ms-different colors  A bowl of mixed nuts  A casserole containing chicken, rice, and cheese  A pizza with various toppings
